80s Music Tragics #16

1982 In The Sun

1982 In The Sun

Side One
1. Wired For Sound – Cliff Richard
This is a tribute song to the then newly invented Sony Walkman. At the time it was a genuine breakthrough in the world of portable music.
2. Hold On Tight – ELO

The third verse of this song is the first verse sung in French
3. Our Lips Are Sealed – The Go-Go’s

Go-Go’s guitarist Jane Wiedlin wrote this with British musician Terry Hall, who was lead singer of The Specials. In homage to mis-heard lyrics the boys and I sing “Alex the Seal”.
4. Girls On Film – Duran Duran

MTV didn’t exist when Duran Duran made the racy video for this song which was intended for video jukeboxes in bars and so weren’t subject to broadcast regulations. It featured the band with girls posing for the camera, some of them nude (the girls, not the band!). The BBC banned the clip but MTV aired an edited version with the nudie girls removed.
5. The Break Up Song – Greg Kihn Band

This was the first hit for The Greg Kihn Band, and their biggest until they scored with Jeopardy in 1983.
6. It’s My Party – Dave Stewart & Barbara Gaskin

This is the “other” Dave Stewart, not the Eurythmics one
7. Just So Lonely – Get Wet
8. Summer Of ’81 – Mondo Rock

This incarnation of Mondo Rock featured James Black, leader of the SBS Rockwiz orchestra
9. Oh No Not You Again – Australian Crawl

Side Two
1. Green Door – Shakin’ Stevens
Originally released in 1956 the song was inspired by a popular music club in Dallas, Texas where the kids who weren’t allowed in hung around outside a yellow door. Obviously “green door” sounded better
2. Do You Know What I Mean – Renee Geyer
3. Alone With You – Sunnyboys
4. Love Song – Simple Minds
5. Precious To Me – Phil Seymour

6. Only Crying – Keith Marshall
7. Pretend – Alvin Stardust

This version is a remake of a song from 1952, most famously recorded by Nat King Cole
8. Bustin’ Loose – Moving Pictures

This was Moving Pictures second single, they followed it up with What About Me
9. Fashion And Fame – The Angels
